Press Release 01517SHEAR
Wednesday, 25th August 2010
The Haeger 824 WindowTouch®–3 insertion press, available through Shear-Form Ltd, the Coventry based sheet metal and plate working machinery supplier and sole UK representative for California based insertion press manufacturer Haeger Inc, is designed to ensure the correct fastener is used every time, thereby improving insertion productivity by up to 40% and improving component quality.
Whether a Company’s fabrication shop is new to hardware insertions or already inserts millions of fasteners every year, the 824 WindowTouch-3® makes life for the operator that much easier by ensuring that the right insertion is used in the right place, eliminating damage to parts during the insertion process with no rejected components due to missing fasteners, at the same time fast ram speeds will increase productivity.
If a fabrication shop is equipped with laser punching and cutting equipment, it makes sense to have a quality yet economic insertion press to maintain product quality throughout the manufacturing process. This insertion press does that at the same time producing a very fast payback time on the initial investment.
To make the operators job easier, a laser part locating light uses a red cross hair laser to clearly show the operator exactly where each fastener should be inserted, whilst the digital camera interface can take images of the positions of fasteners on a finished component and import that information into the equipment’s part program for future re-call.
Haeger’s InsertionGraphics™ software provides a visual guide to the insertion process. Full colour component images can be displayed on the computer touch screen with each fastener position on a component being displayed with a colour coded flashing dot. Different colours are used to identify different types of insertions helping to ensure that no fasteners are missing and that the correct one is inserted.
The InsertionLogic® software includes a full colour teach screen to set up the sequence in which different fasteners are inserted, a main operation screen to provide control of program parameters, program setup to enable the operator to store different job specifications and see what tooling modules to use, whilst a fastener library allows jobs to be set up effectively and quickly.
This insertion press is designed to apply insertions into thin gauge materials and other applications, where absolute repeatability (+/-0.5%) is critical. It has a force range from 4-72kN, a throat depth of 610mm and throat height of 342mm.
Other performance enhancing features include a multi-shuttle tooling platform for nuts, studs and stand-offs, which reduces the tool changing time to about 2 minutes without the need for re-alignment, whilst the Turret Insertion System (TIS-2) enables up to 4 different fasteners to be inserted in one part handling, whilst a positive locking station ensures the operator has activated the correct tool station and that their is no tool movement when the insertion takes place. The tool position feedback eliminates missing fasteners by stopping the operator from moving on to the next fastener until the current fastener is inserted.

New Haeger Automatic and Manual XYZ sheet handling solutions for use with insertion presses are now available from Shear-Form Ltd.
Sheet handling is the most time consuming element of the hardware insertion process and these new 4 Haeger sheet handling systems have been designed to increase productivity and product quality by reducing the time of this element and improving the accuracy of the insertion process.
Both the Haeger WindowTouch®-3 insertion press with a force ranging from 4 - 72kN and designed to apply inserts into thin gauge materials and insertion applications where absolute repeatability (+/-0.5%) is critical. and Haeger 824 OneTouch®-3 insertion press featuring a four station automatic tool changing system with servo driven tool changer providing a 3 second automatic tool change, can be used with any of these 4 sheet handling systems.
The manual handling unit enables one operator to easily load large sheets, which would normally need multiple operators or a support table to handle.
An automatic sheet handling system loads and unloads flat sheets up to 600mm x 1,000mm with a 4th axis to turn parts and insert on two different sides of the sheet. Another automatic system loads and unloads 300mm x 400mm. flat sheets without a 4th axis.
Using a 6-axis arm Motoman robot cell with Haeger’s latest offline programming software allows sheets up to 1,200mm x 1,500mm. to be loaded and unloaded. This cell can also be fitted with a pallet feeding system on the finished products side.
